frequently asked questions

Do I need to sign up for a class in advance or pre-register?

No. Our classes do not require an advance pre-registration and you may drop in anytime.

How early do I need to arrive?

On you first class, please allow yourself 10 minutes to check in and register. All classes begin on time and we expect you to arrive on time as a courtesy to others.

What do I need to wear?

We recommend that you choose comfortable cotton stretch clothing where range of motion is not restricted.

What do I need to bring with me?

Yoga mat, water bottle, towel. (Yoga mats are available for rent, and water is available for purchase.)

What class do you recommend if I've never practiced yoga?

Yoga Basics moves at a comfortable pace for beginners and deepens your understanding of the practice.

How much time do I need to wait to practice after eating?

It is recommended to practice yoga on an empty stomach (2-3 hours after a meal). However, certain conditions require that a snack such as fruit or yogurt be eaten 30 minutes before exercise.

Can women practice during their menstrual cycle?

This can be debated. The decision is up to the individual based on your own intuition and knowledge of the menstrual cycle. Some say asana (postures) are not to be practiced at all while some don't see the harm as long as you refrain from inversions. Naturally, you want toxic blood to exit your body and since it flows down you want to encourage that blood flow by abstaining from inversions.

How often is it recommended that I practice?

You can practice daily, every other day or as often as your schedule allows. Yoga can be practiced daily unlike weight lifting or intense exercise. The key is to practice with intelligence and awareness to your body's needs. Use your own wisdom to determine the level of energy you have and how much effort you wish to put into a practice and you will never burn out. Remember your needs change daily so if the same class feels more challenging or less difficult one day it is due to your body's energy level. Always practice at your own pace!

Can I store my mat at the Charlotte Athletic Club?

Yes. For $5/month you get a personal storage area with a nameplate.
