· Construction will begin this week, November 17, 2008, focusing on the expansion of the ladies locker room. Most of the construction over the next two weeks will be conducted at night to minimize disruption.
· On 11/26, more invasive structural construction will start.
· From 11/26 – 1/4 the club will be closed for renovations.
· During this time, members will have full privileges at several local clubs (see the FAQs below for more details)
· On 1/5, the newly transformed Charlotte Athletic Club will re-open to members
FAQs:
Why do you need to close the club during renovations?
Due to invasive structural changes to the locker rooms and main floor, it is not possible to maintain the current service level our members have come to expect during a portion of the renovation. We will begin construction at night over the next two weeks, and from November 26 – January 4 renovations will begin around the clock and the club will be closed during that time.
How will I work out during the portion of the renovation when the club is closed?
We have partnered with the Uptown YMCA (Dowd, Childress Klein, Gateway, and Stratford Richardson) and Athletic Club South End where you will have full membership privileges. You can also continue to train with your Charlotte Athletic Club personal trainer at the Childress Klein Y (located in One Wachovia on College Street) during the renovation closing.
How will I access the YMCA or Athletic Club South End (ACSE)?
Starting Wednesday, November 19, you may sign up for a temporary membership card with our partner facilities at the Charlotte Athletic Club front desk. To ensure a seamless transition, please complete this by Tuesday, November 25. Management will be on hand to answer questions and further explain the process. We will have information sheets available with more specific information including parking, hours, and directions.
What is the Charlotte Athletic Club doing to make up for the inconvenience of the renovation?
1. Complimentary Spa Services or Personal Training Sessions: Existing personal training clients will receive two complimentary spa services, a $170 value. If you aren’t currently a personal training client, you have the option of choosing the spa service or three personal training sessions worth $130. You can take advantage of these services during the renovation or when the club reopens at the beginning of January.
2. Member Appreciation Event: On Thursday, December 4, we are hosting a member appreciation event at the new Brazilian Steakhouse, Chima, from 6pm-9pm. Chima is located at the corner of 4th and S. Tryon St. Our entire staff will be in attendance and available to answer any questions. Food and drinks will be provided, compliments of Chima and Charlotte Athletic Club. Please RSVP to Kelley by Monday, December 1 by e-mailing kelley@charlotteathleticclub.com.
3. Personalized Workout Planning: Upon request, we will create an individualized personal fitness plan for the time we are closed that addresses workouts and nutrition. We will also be available throughout the holidays to help you address any fitness questions you have.
Have the plans changed for the basketball courts?
After feedback from our basketball court users, we have modified the plan so that the basketball court will remain as it is currently configured.
Will the construction be completed on January 5?
By January 5, the club will have undergone a major transformation. The major structural changes will be completed, but the construction won’t be completely finished. The big things will be completed (i.e. shower areas, the women’s locker room, reconfigured floors, etc.), but we will still be working on some of the finishes (i.e. final painting, completion of the expanded area in the men’s locker room, etc.). Any work done after January 5 will be completed after hours and will not be disruptive for members.
How can I be sure the club will reopen on January 5?
We are working with world-renowned architects at Gensler and one of the top contractors in the Southeast in RT Dooley. We are paying a premium to ensure the construction is done impeccably and is completed on time.
What will happen to the contents of my locker?
Should you choose not to take the items in your locker home during the time period we’re closed, we will pack up your locker, store the items securely, and return them to your locker prior to reopening. If you do not want us to store your items, please ensure you have taken everything with you by November 25.
Can I still play squash?
We will have limited hours on one court during the renovation period. Look for more details next week.
How will I communicate with the club while it’s closed?
· You will have a number of ways to communicate with the staff as we are committed to supporting your physical fitness as well as assisting with any questions that may come up.
· If you have questions about personal training, nutrition, or achieving your fitness goals, please contact our Fitness Director, Anji, via e-mail: anji@charlotteathleticclub.com.
· Membership questions should be directed to the Membership Director, Kelley, at: kelley@charlotteathleticclub.com.
· All other questions should be directed to info@charlotteathleticclub.com.
· We will also be posting construction updates and photos weekly on our website – www.charlotteathleticclub.com..
· Our staff will be operating an information table downstairs by the escalator during this time, and most week-days you will be able to stop by and speak with someone from 9am-5pm.
· Additionally, the club will have limited hours throughout this time where members can tour the facility and see the improvements taking place.
Summary: While the renovation is necessary to improve the existing facility, we understand that it is an inconvenience for our members. We want to say thank you in advance for your patience and understanding. We have tried to anticipate all of the issues and will work diligently to manage the renovation process and minimize the inconvenience as much as possible. Our goal remains to create the finest health club that Charlotte has ever seen. Please do not hesitate to contact us before or during the renovation.
